🟨 JavaScript: the language I did not know I was going to love

We wrapped up the JavaScript module and something I did not expect happened: I love it. From feeling like I was writing hieroglyphs to actually enjoying it.

Today we officially wrapped up the JavaScript module and, honestly, I do not know what has happened to me… but I think I love JavaScript 😅.

I never thought I would say something like that. At first it seemed like a chaotic language: braces, brackets, dots, single/double/back quotes, odd symbols everywhere… I felt like I was writing hieroglyphs.

But little by little — by repeating, breaking things, fixing them and breaking them again — I started to get the hang of it. And when you get something to work, and you see it there on the frontend, the feeling is incredible.

✨ When I discovered async/await, I levelled up

I literally felt like I had unlocked a new skill, like in video games 😂.

Suddenly I could load data from APIs, generate cards dynamically, show characters, render lists, build filters… Everything became much more “real” and visual.

And that is when I thought: “OK, I am starting to like this language, a lot.”

💻 How I practise (spoiler: it works)

Every day, even if only for a short while, I do exercises on whatever we are covering in class.

And I do not just repeat them: I make them harder, mix them up and rewrite them from scratch to really absorb them.

Some of the things I have been practising:

The fun part is that, even though it does not always come out perfectly first time, I now move forward with an idea in my head of how I want to approach the solution. Before, I did not even know where to start.

And yes, of course, I also have an essential companion on this journey:

My best friend, Gregorio Paredes Torrente (ChatGPT 🤣)

He never lets me down.

👩‍🏫 The teachers and the bootcamp: a top experience

Honestly, the bootcamp team has infinite patience.

They explain, explain again, answer questions at any hour, add extra classes without any fuss… and that, for those of us coming in “from zero”, is worth its weight in gold. I am very grateful to them and, sincerely, I highly recommend the experience I am having so far.

🐍 Python begins… and now the good stuff is coming

We move from the browser to the console.

From HTML and buttons, to input(), virtual environments, dependencies and the CLI.

Python is… just like JavaScript, but completely different 😅

And even though it is a bit daunting, I also find it very interesting.

😰 FOMO in the tech world… it is real

There is so much content, so many tutorials, so many possible paths, that the more I learn, the more I realise everything I do NOT know.

It is a strange feeling: instead of enjoying what I have learned, I feel tiny because of everything I still have to learn.

But there is something lovely in that too:

For the first time in my life I am studying something I genuinely enjoy.

I feel motivated, curious, keen.

And to me that is worth more than everything I do not know yet.

🟢 Things I have learned that I never thought I would manage

💛 I am closing this chapter with something important:

I am still learning, still making mistakes, still improving.

But now I enjoy it.

Before I felt fear; now I feel curiosity.

And that changes everything.
